Private Pay FAQs

What are the Key Benefits to Private Pay Therapy?

  • Maximum Privacy and Confidentiality: Because no insurance company is involved, your diagnosis, treatment notes, and personal details remain between you and your therapist, avoiding the need for a permanent diagnosis in your medical record.

  • Tailored, Flexible Treatment: Therapists are not restricted by insurance limitations on session numbers, duration, or types of treatment, allowing for a personalized plan that fits your specific needs.

  • Broader Therapist Selection: You can choose a specialist based on their expertise, rather than relying on a limited insurance provider list.

  • No "Medical Necessity" Required: Insurance requires a formall DSM-5-TR diagnosis to prove "medical necessity" for coverage, which you can avoid with private pay.

  • Less Bureaucracy and Faster Access: Eliminates the need for pre-authorizations, insurance denials, and administrative delays, allowing for faster, easier access to care.

  • Improved Therapeutic Focus: Therapists often spend less time on insurance paperwork, allowing them to focus entirely on your care, with potential for improved engagement and outcomes.

Why Private Pay? Some context that goes into my professional services fee?

Specialized Small Boutique Caseload:

  • In order to serve each client with the upmost care and specialized treatment, I keep my caseload smaller than large group practices and clinics in order to show up fully present and resourced to meet every person's individual and unique needs.

  • My passion in helping others, includes continuous investment in advanced professional development in the areas I specialize in such advanced trainings, clinical supervision and my own therapy to ensure that I’m offering work that is ethical, embodied, and deeply effective.

  • My rate reflects the level of care, training and intention I bring to this work — and the kind of longterm transformation we aim for together.

  • As a private practice therapist, I also cover the full cost of running a business, including health and liability insurance, continuing education, and time off for rest.

  • Insurance reimbursement rates have not kept pace with inflation, so I limit in network clients to those who have been grandfathered in.

  • My rate is consistent with other experienced trauma therapists in the NY and CT.

  • I understand that my rate may not be accessible to all clients, therefore, I will refer inquires to practices I work with; as well as recommend searching Psychology Today for in network options or Open Path Collective for low fee options. Intuitive Healing NY also offers sliding scale therapy starting at $80. I am happy to help with referrals if needed. We all deserve care at the level that fits our budget.
